In the morning of 26 August, flash floods and
landslides swept across the border between China and Nepal, destroying areas
along Tibet’s Gyirong County and Nepal’s Rasuwa District. As of 3 September, at
least 1,200 deaths have been reported, with over 5,000 still missing and
casualties expected to rise. Buildings, cars, roads, and bridges were likewise
destroyed. With the complexity of the geography in the surrounding region,
together with the expected rainfall in the coming days and significant
temperature difference between night and day, rescue operations will become
even more difficult.
The bishops of H.K.S.K.H. call upon all the faithful to keep those affected by the flash floods in Tibet and Nepal in prayers. At the same time, Archbishop Andrew Chan has initiated an appeal for donations from the faithful and the public to the H.K.S.K.H. Archbishop World Relief Fund. All proceeds will go to the Diocese of Singapore (under which the Anglican Church in Nepal operates as a deanery) and the Amity Foundation for purposes of relief and reconstruction. Those who are moved to contribute to the cause can make donations to the Fund in the following ways:
Direct deposit or bank transfer
Deposit fund into the account of the H.K.S.K.H. Archbishop World Relief Fund at the Bank of East Asia (account number: 015-514-40-53009-3)
Crossed cheque
Make cheque payable to “H.K.S.K.H. Archbishop World Relief Fund” and send it by post to Provincial Office, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, Bishop’s House, 1 Lower Albert Road, Central, Hong Kong.
Each contribution will be split equally between the Diocese of Singapore and the Amity Foundation, unless a donor instructs otherwise by specifying on the donation form, the deposit slip, or the back of the cheque which organization should receive the donation.
If a receipt is required, a donor should write his/her name, address, and contact number on the deposit slip or the back of the cheque and send the information by email to office1@hkskh.org or by post to the Provincial Office. Donations of $100 or above are eligible for tax deduction in Hong Kong. Please ring +852 2526 5355 for enquiry.
