【NOTICE OF THE HOUSE OF BISHOPS】Wedding services, services for the dead, and group activities in HK

Taking into account the directions issued by Hong Kong’s Secretary for Food and Health pursuant to section 8 of the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulation (Chapter 599F, the Laws of Hong Kong), gazetted as Government Notice 29 of 2022 on 6 January 2022, and the provisions of the Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition on Group Gathering) Regulation (Chapter 599G, the Laws of Hong Kong), the House of Bishops has announced the following arrangements for the churches situate in Hong Kong concerning wedding services, services for the dead, and group activities (other than worship services) for the period between the 7th and the 20th of January 2022:

1. The number of participants at a wedding service is not to exceed twenty (excluding any clergy who officiate or assist at the service), and no food or drink (except Holy Communion) should be provided.

2. Wakes, funerals, and burials are exempted group gatherings at which there is no restriction on the number of participants.

3. If it is necessary to hold any group gathering in person, no more than twenty persons should be allowed to take part in it in the same premises.

Infection prevention measures, such as the wearing of masks and physical distancing, should be in place when any of the abovementioned activities happens.

Clergy having any query regarding the above matters should approach their respective diocesan bishops.
