Notice from the House of Bishops:Public Worship and Group Activities in the Missionary Area of Macau

In response to the latest development of the COVID-19 epidemic in Macau, the House of Bishops announces the following guidelines for the act of worship and group activities in the Missionary Area of Macau:

1. All Public Worship Services may resume on 17th May 2020.

2. For their own safety and that of others, worshippers and ministers who feel unwell or show respiratory symptoms, such as coughing or fever, should stay home and seek appropriate medical attention.

3. Upon entering churches, the worshippers should follow the infection prevention guidelines and the instructions of church staff, wear surgical masks at all times, take body temperature checks, wash hands with sanitizers etc.

4. The number of worshippers entering the churches should be limited in numbers in order to ensure safe distances are kept between people especially when they are seated. If the maximum capacity is reached, those who cannot enter the churches are to be diverted by the church where they can watch the live broadcast; again always keeping a safe distance between them. Additional services could be considered as options to serve the numbers of attendance. Please keep the 1 meter social distance between persons both inside and outside church premises.

5. Avoid shaking of hands during the sharing of peace;

6. The celebrant and assisting ministers should rub their hands with hand sanitizer before the offering of bread and wine, as well as immediately prior to the distribution of the elements;

7. During the Eucharistic Prayer (except the words of institution), the bread and wine should be covered with purificators until distribution of Holy Communion; these purificators should be changed after each service and washed thoroughly before reuse;

8. In order to avoid cross infection, the communicants will be given the Body of Christ only, and the Blood of Christ will be consumed by the celebrant and/or assisting ministers;

9. All activities such as Sunday School and fellowships remain suspended until further notice.
