Queen Awards Honour to Archbishop Paul Kwong and Father Peter Koon

The London Gazette announced on 18 April that Queen Elizabeth II “has been graciously pleased to sanction the following...Appointments to...the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem” of the Most Revd Dr Paul Kwong as Commander (Brother) and the Revd Peter Douglas Koon as Officer (Brother).

Representing The Queen who is the Order’s Sovereign Head, the Grand Prior of the Order, Prince Richard, The Duke of Gloucester, presented the appropriate insignia to Archbishop Kwong and Fr. Koon at an Evening Prayer and Investiture held by the St John Priory of Hong Kong at St John’s Cathedral on 27 May.

Archbishop Kwong and Fr. Koon are respectively the Dean and Chaplain of the St John Priory of Hong Kong. The awards are the Order’s appreciation for their support and contribution to the Priory.

The symbol of the Order of St John is a white, eight-pointed cross, embellished at its four inner vertices alternately by a lion and a unicorn. The four arms of the cross represent the four cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, temperance and fortitude, while the eight points represent the eight beatitudes which mark the opening of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:3–10).
